Graduate education provides the foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes for school counselors to successfully define, deliver, assess, and manage (ASCA, 2019) comprehensive school counseling programs. In partnership with school site supervisors, counselor educators are responsible for preparing school counseling students to meet the ever evolving needs of our K-12 schools. To this end, the following resources are intended to provide guidance for negotiating school counselor preparation and practice during this unprecedented time of school closures and virtual communication.
School counselor preparation programs may naturally be concerned with their candidates’ ability to
complete clinical practice hours and competency requirements during this academic year. CASC has
developed a document aimed at summarizing the most recent guidance provided by the CTC and some
general recommendations for negotiating school counselor preparation and practice.
